How to Make Unhealthy Pasta Healthy
Are you somebody who enjoys being lectured at? Do you particularly like constantly being told what to do? Probably not. It’s no wonder, then, why many people fail to adopt a long-term healthy eating plan.
“Don’t eat this. Don’t eat that. This food has too much fat. This has too much sugar. This has too much sodium. Avoid nitrites, nitrates and gluten...and....”
By this point, it’s enough to make most people’s head spin, resulting in the conclusion that it’s too difficult to eat healthy.
Life’s too short to count calories and subsist on seeds and sprouts, if that’s what it takes to be healthy. (It’s not, but many people who have tried dieting come to this conclusion.)
In order to lose weight, control your blood sugar and enjoy steady energy throughout the day, it is necessary to fine-tune your nutrition habits somewhat. The best way to do this is not by going on a radical or trendy juice fast or cleanse. Nor is it necessary to go on any other sort of diet. No, the best way to eat healthy is to turn unhealthy meals into scrumptious, guilt-free dishes.
Let’s take one of the most decadent pasta dishes: mac and cheese.
One serving size of a leading brand’s version of mac and cheese contains the following:
- 260 calories per cup...but who eats only one cup? Double the calories at least....
- 48 grams of carbohydrates
- 7 grams of sugar
- 1 gram of fiber
- 600 mg of sodium (25% of the maximum daily advised intake)
- 10 grams of protein
What are the unhealthy components of the mac and cheese? The sugar and high carbohydrate count will cause a release of insulin and if your cells are already filled to capacity with sugar, the excess sugar that can’t get in the cells will be stored as body fat.
The high sodium can be problematic for those who have high blood pressure and don’t exercise enough to sweat out the excess sodium.
The miniscule amount of fiber won’t prevent the quick digestion of the pasta, thereby converting the carbohydrates into sugar. The protein from the cheese may slow down the conversion into sugar somewhat but the expansion of the belly or love-handles is very likely with the high sugar and carbohydrate intake.
So how can you transform decadent mac and cheese into decadent healthy mac and cheese?
Miracle Noodle makes unhealthy dishes healthy. One of Miracle Noodle’s newest products, Miracle Noodle Ziti, has only 5 calories but soaks up any sauce or flavoring, so cooking baked ziti or mac and cheese tastes like the real thing but without the carbs, blood sugar spiking risk, excess sodium and high calorie count.
Miracle Noodle Ziti, in addition to looking just like real Italian ziti, has two healthy nutrients: fiber and beta carotene.
If your favorite part of mac and cheese is the cheese, take comfort in this comfort food, by knowing that you can enjoy eating more cheese because of the extremely low calorie count in Miracle Noodle Ziti.
Don't kill your mac and cheese with cheese that isn't cheese
To make your decadent mac and cheese even healthier but without sacrificing taste, add organic or even raw cheese to the Miracle Noodle Ziti. Organic cheeses and European varieties do not contain hormones or antibiotics that some conventional cheeses are laden with. And many people believe that organic cheese tastes far superior to cheeses that, in essence, are non-food foods, such as squeezable cheeses from a bottle.
If you want to make your decadent mac and cheese the healthiest version, try to buy raw cheese. Heard of probiotics, those billions of microscopic organisms in your gut that keep your immune system strong? Raw cheese contains probiotics. And for some people who have difficulty digesting dairy, raw cheese is easier to digest. In the U.S., states vary on their laws governing the sale of raw dairy. (Here’s a website to see what the law is in your state.)
